AEW's Malakai Black Reveals Reaction To Discovering He Had A 30-Day Non-Compete Clause

Malakai Black has revealed his reaction to discovering he only had a 30-day non-compete clause following his WWE release.

Black was released by WWE on June 2 and he shockingly debuted in All Elite Wrestling only one month later on July 7 at Road Rager. 

Main roster WWE Superstars often have a 90-day non-compete clause following their releases, so many didn't expect Black to pop up anywhere until at least September. It was noted soon after, though, that a clerical error meant WWE neglected to upgrade Black's 30-day non-compete clause after he moved to SmackDown from NXT, which meant he could debut in AEW in July. 

Black was the latest guest on Talk Is Jericho and he revealed his reaction to the discovery.

"I think they forgot about it. I think they forgot to update it. I remember seeing that. I took a picture of it, and I sent it to my agent. I'm like, 'Dude, do you see what I'm seeing?' He's like, 'Does that mean 30 days?' It's like, 'I think it does,' so I contacted someone within the company. I said, 'Look, am I reading this correct?' And this person said, 'No, that's correct. Even now, I'm looking at it, you have 30 days,' and I'm like, 'Alright, perfect,'" Black stated.

Upon debuting in AEW, Black began a feud with Cody Rhodes. The two men faced off for the first time on the Homecoming edition of Dynamite and Black picked up a dominant win and pinned The American Nightmare with one foot.
