AEW Signs Jim Ross To Three Year Deal
As more than just an announcer...
The news had been speculated upon for some time, especially as Jim Ross himself announced roughly a month ago that his WWE contract would expire on Friday, March 29. After being linked to All Elite Wrestling through various rumors and assumptions, official ties to the promotion have now been confirmed.
AEW put out a press release Wednesday (thanks to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful for posting), announcing that the veteran announcer and backstage official has signed a three-year deal with the company.
The header of the release claims that it's the, "most lucrative deal in commentary history", though nothing financial or incentive-based is specifically noted in the release.
Ross joins AEW not only as an announcer, but as a "Senior Advisor", closely working with the company's top officials to help, "shift and reinvent the wrestling landscape."
As expected, the press release also states that Ross will appear at AEW Double or Nothing on May 25 in Las Vegas.
For the better part of 26 years, Ross worked for WWE primarily as an on-screen announcer, as well as Executive Vice President of Talent Relations throughout the latter half of the 1990s, and into the early 2000s. His last televised appearance for WWE came as part of the Kickoff panel at Greatest Royal Rumble in April 2018.
