AEW's Miro Reveals Why He Stopped Wrestling Barefoot

The former Rusev used to wrestle without boots in WWE

Miro has revealed a torn ankle suffered in a match with Ryback stopped him from wrestling barefooted.

The former Rusev used to step into the ring without boots or any sort of footwear on in his early days on the WWE main roster but began to wear boots again in 2015.

The AEW TNT Champion has now revealed a match with The Big Guy in WWE resulted in him snapping all the ligaments in his ankle, which led to him once again wearing boots inside the ring.

Speaking at Pittsburgh Comic Con, Miro said: "I tore my ankle. I had a match with Ryback and he gave me a back body drop outside the ring and as soon as I landed...I landed fine, but I was 315 pounds and my ankle just snapped, and all the ligaments, it tore everything around and ever since, I said: 'No more'.

"I put some shoes on. I loved (wrestling) barefoot. I was a huge fan of Umaga and always looked up to him. That was my tribute to him."
