Former ROH, TNA Star Jimmy Rave Passes Away
The veteran wrestler was 39
James Guffey, known to wrestling fans for his two decades-plus career throughout numerous organizations under the name Jimmy Rave, has passed away, according to an update from promoter/agent Bill Behrens on PWInsider.
Guffey was 39 years old.
A pro since 1999, Rave wrestled for a number of prolific indies early in his career, including NWA Wildside, CZW, and Full Impact Pro, as well as Dragon Gate. He also appeared for both WWE and TNA in underneath roles during his earlier years.
In 2003, Rave debuted for Ring of Honor, later becoming a member of Prince Nana's Embassy stable. Rave's time with the group was notable for the sheer amount of heel heat bestowed upon him by ROH crowds.
While with the company, Rave won a trios tournament with Alex Shelley and Abyss, and also challenged Bryan Danielson for the World title.
Rave later moved to TNA, where he formed the Rock 'n Rave Infection with Lance Rock (Archer), managed by Christy Hemme. The two were a regular duo until they were both released in 2009.
Rave made a number of appearances for ROH between 2009 and 2013, and was a part of the stable S.C.U.M. with Kevin Steen, Steve Corino, Matt Hardy, and others.
Rave last wrestled in 2019. A year following his final bout, Rave announced his retirement, after losing an arm to amputation as a result of a MRSA infection. This past October, Rave also had both legs amputated.
Accolades from Rave's career include the CZW Iron Man title, the Full Impact Pro Tag Team titles, two NWA World Junior Heavyweight titles, as well as participation in New Japan's Best of the Super Juniors tournament in 2008.
