John Cena Announces He Will Retire In 2025 At WWE Money In The Bank

John Cena to retire in 2025

John Cena's WWE career will come to an end in 2025.

The 16-time world champion appeared at Money in the Bank wearing a "The Last Time Is Now, 2025 Farewell Tour" t-shirt. Cena announced that he would be retiring in 2025, noting the 2025 editions of Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber will be his final matches at those shows. Cena then stated that WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas will be the final time he wrestles at WrestleMania.

Cena later clarified in the post-Money in the Bank press conference that he won't be retiring at WrestleMania, but it will be his final time performing at the 'Showcase of the Immortals.' Cena noted he is tentatively planned for 30-40 WWE dates in 2025 to finish up his in-ring career and he will remain a part of the company in some capacity beyond his retirement. One thing that won't return after his retirement is jorts, with Cena noting fans will see him only in a suit and tie after 2025.

Cena did note earlier this year that he was hoping to come back for one final run in 2025. The 47-year-old has acting commitments through the rest of 2024, including filming the second season of Peacemaker, the DC Comics series headed by James Gunn in which Cena plays the titular character.

John Cena has been signed with WWE since 2001 and he was the company's top star for a decade from 2005 until he became a part-time wrestler in 2016. Cena has wrestled less and less since then and his most recent involvement before Money in the Bank came at the Raw after WrestleMania 40 where R-Truth finally teamed with his childhood hero and The Miz to defeat The Judgment Day.
