John Cena Reveals He Almost Signed With WCW

John Cena might have ended up in WCW

John Cena almost had a very different path to WWE.

It is already known the 16-time world champion began his career in California in UPW, performing as The Prototype, before he signed a developmental deal with WWE in 2001. He continued to perform as the semi-robotic character before he switched to using his real name upon heading to the main roster in 2002.

Speaking about his performance at WrestleMania 39 on Busted Open Radio, Cena revealed that he could have ended up in World Championship Wrestling during the promotion's final days had WWE not made him an offer.

"Well, I get excited with potential. I really do get excited with potential and it's because I think in my origin story, I wasn't exactly someone that people were betting on. I kind of got hired defensively so I wouldn't go to WCW for peanuts. I had some people who saw me perform who were advocating to people who didn't care about my performance, which granted me some opportunities and then I was lucky to have some people who supported me," Cena stated.

Maybe in another lifetime, Cena would have ended up as part of the infamous Invasion storyline in 2001 after Vince McMahon bought WCW from Time Warner.
