John Cena's WWE Royal Rumble 2019 Status Confirmed

We won't be seeing him...

WWE

Update: WWE have officially confirmed that Cena will not be taking part in the Rumble match due to an ankle injury.

There's a 'WWE Now' Royal Rumble pay-per-view preview taking place on the company's official YouTube channel - and John Cena's status for the Royal Rumble match has been confirmed.

Now we weren't watching at the time, but PWInsider are reporting that Mike Rome and Cathy Kelley have confirmed that John Cena will not be in the men's Rumble match.

Here's what PWInsider had to say: "On today's WWE Now Preview, WWE officially confirmed that John Cena will not be in this year's Royal Rumble match."

Cena had been one of the frontrunners for the men's Rumble after announcing himself for the match towards the start of the month. Many believed that Cena could have been in-line for a Universal Championship match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania after that 'I never let you down, boss' segment with Vince McMahon on Raw.

In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that there are no plans for Cena at WrestleMania 35 currently: "Nothing official has been decided regarding Cena, partially because nobody knows what’s going to happen with Lars Sullivan, who has been told he’s welcome back when he’s ready.”
