Jushin Liger WWE 2K22 Showcase Mode Match Seemingly Scrapped

Jushin Liger almost in WWE 2K22

As the cover star of WWE 2K22, Rey Mysterio is the focus of his own showcase mode in the new title and the mode chronicles several matches from The Master Of The 619's career, including his Halloween Havoc contest with Eddie Guerrero, his Judgement Day 2006 match with JBL, and his Royal Rumble 2010 bout with The Undertaker.

One famous match from Mysterio's career was seemingly planned for the mode but was scrapped ahead of release, though.

Twitter user and WWE 2K content creator @WhatsTheStatus discovered a showcase mode graphic for Rey Mysterio vs. Jushin Liger from Starrcade 1996, suggesting the NJPW legend was discussed as an inclusion in the title.

Liger ultimately wasn't added to 2K22, though, for an unknown reason but his famous mask is included in the game's creation suite.

Following their 1996 match, Liger and Mysterio wouldn't interact again until 2018 when they teamed together in NJPW with Hiroshi Tanahashi at Dominion.

Liger was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2021. He only performed for the company once, though, at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn in 2015, defeating Tyler Breeze.

WWE 2K22 is available for purchase now.
