Keith Lee Given New Nickname At WWE Raw

A new beard and a new name

Keith Lee has seemingly been given a brand new nickname as part of a character makeover in WWE.

Lee worked a dark match for the live crowd in Raleigh, North Carolina ahead of the September 20 episode of Monday Night Raw. The former NXT Champion could be seen to have started growing a beard and, as he walked to the ring, was announced with a new nickname.

The 36-year-old was introduced to the audience as 'Keith "Bearcat" Lee'.

The ‘Bearcat’ nickname could be in tribute to former wrestler Bearcat Wright, a former WWA World Heavyweight champion who performed in the 1950s and 1960s, and was posthumously inducted into the Legacy wing of the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.

Lee has been working dark matches prior to the start of both WWE Raw and SmackDown since early August. The Limitless One returned to WWE in July, after a lengthy absence due to health issues.

There have been reports, since Lee's return, that WWE are struggling to determine which direction to take him in. One specific idea, reportedly pitched to former WWE talent Adam Cole, would have involved AEW's newest signing being the manager for a heel Keith Lee.
