Matt Hardy Reveals Details Of His AEW Contract
What options does "The Broken One" have?
Matt Hardy's first pay-per-view match with AEW ended in victory, as he teamed with members of The Elite to take down The Inner Circle in a largely-surreal "Stadium Stampede" match at AEW Double or Nothing in Jacksonville.
Ahead of that clash, Hardy spoke with Wrestling Inc's Justin LaBar for the site's podcast, discussing several details of his AEW contract. Specifically, the 45-year-old spoke about what options are available to him outside of the company, if he chooses to pursue them.
"I could do New Japan if it makes sense," Hardy revealed. "In my conversation with Tony [Khan], I said if I was gonna do New Japan I'd be interested in maybe doing a small feud that ended at Wrestle Kingdom. I wouldn't want to go to Japan and work part-time. I don't think my body could handle that with the wear-and-tear and travelling. I'm very happy doing this one day a week at AEW.
"Later, once society gets back to normal in the future, I can do outside appearances and signings. There's so much creative freedom and freedom of schedule with AEW."
Also on the podcast, Hardy also spoke about the challenges of doing empty arena shows, and the new crop of wrestlers he gets to work with in AEW.
