NJPW & Stardom Announce Creation Of IWGP Women's Title

A new championship in NJPW and Stardom

A women's championship is coming to New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Announced in today's World Wonder Ring Stardom strategy meeting was the creation of the IWGP Women's Championship, the promotion's Twitter account revealed. The belt is designed to be defended at NJPW events in Japan and the United States but Stardom noted the title could also be defended on their major shows.

The inaugural IWGP Women's Champion will be crowned at the NJPW x Stardom joint show on November 20. Stardom clarified the new belt will not "usurp" their World of Stardom and Wonder of Stardom championships, which remain the main titles in the promotion.

The announcement of an IWGP Women's Title follows the reveal earlier this month that women's matches will be featured on New Japan shows in the United States. Mixed tag team matches will also take place at the joint show on November 20.

NJPW and Stardom have been linked since 2019 when New Japan's parent company Bushiroad acquired the Joshi promotion.
