NJPW The New Beginning In Sapporo Day 1 Results

Full results from NJPW The New Beginning in Sapporo

New Japan Pro-Wrestling's New Beginning tour continued today as the promotion arrived in Sapporo for the first of two events over the weekend.

The February 4 show was headlined by two grudge matches as Will Ospreay faced Taichi in the semi-main before Shota Umino had the biggest match of his career so far, squaring off with Tetsuya Naito in the main event.

In that main event, Umino showed his inexperience at points and he was unable to put his opponent away. After 32 minutes, Naito connected with Destino, only for Umino to kick out. Naito simply waited to hit the move again, though, and that allowed him to pick up the 1-2-3.

After the match, Naito picked up Umino, only to push him out of the ring.

In the semi-main, Will Ospreay got back on track after his loss to Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 17, picking up the win over Taichi today. Ospreay scored the victory after a Hidden Blade and Stormbreaker.

Ospreay's victory continued an already good night for United Empire over Just Four Guys as Francesco Akira and TJP had defeated DOUKI and Yoshinobu Kanemaru to retain the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships earlier in the show.
