Paul Heyman Reveals How He Came Up With Being Brock Lesnar's 'Advocate' In WWE

Heyman returned to WWE in 2012

Paul Heyman has revealed he wanted to be Brock Lesnar's 'advocate' upon his return to WWE in 2012 so he could pay homage to his father.

Heyman returned to WWE a few months following Lesnar's comeback, realigning with The Beast and describing himself as his 'advocate'.

The former ECW boss has now revealed he came up with the term as an homage to his dad, who he watched use the same expression during his time as a personal injury attorney.

Speaking to Ryan Satin on the Out Of Character Podcast, Heyman said: "Every single day, Vincent Kennedy McMahon wears a tie that is the same type of tie that his father used to wear. Because, every single day, he pays homage to his father. I paid homage to my father when I came back in 2012 and called myself 'the advocate'.

"I was no longer Brock Lesnar's agent, I was his advocate, because I witnessed my father in court  - my father was a personal injury attorney - as an advocate.

"My father, as we Heyman males are known to do, p*ssed off an authority figure who, at this point, was a judge. This judge would [say]: "Mr Heyman..." because we Heymans do get lectured a lot. And my father said 'Oh your Honour, your Honour...I'm just an advocate'.

"So when I came back in 2012 I said to Brock: "I hope it's okay with you; I want to be your advocate. That's what my father is and I'm going to play my father in that role. Like my father performing in front of a jury, and I'll perform in front of the jury of the audience.'"
