Report: AEW Pick Up Brian Cage's Option Year

‘The Machine’ is allegedly staying put

Reports have emerged stating that AEW have picked-up Brian Cage’s option year.

Fightful Select are reporting that Cage’s option year has been picked up, meaning ‘The Machine’ will be with AEW through to February 2023, with his initial deal originally set to expire on February 21 2022. Cage has reportedly told people backstage that his option has been picked up.

Cage has barely been used by AEW in months, with reports of discontent from Cage and wife Melissa Santos over Cage’s lack of screen-time making the rounds last year. Fightful further reported that Cage has not been seen backstage at AEW in months, with his last televised match taking place on October 6 2021 - a loss to FTW Champion Ricky Starks on Rampage in a Philadelphia Street Fight. Allegedly, other wrestling promotions were interested in bringing Cage on-board full-time if a deal could not be reached with AEW.

A former FTW Champion in AEW, and former IMPACT World Champion, Brian Cage debuted for AEW at Double or Nothing 2020, as the mystery ‘joker’ in the Casino Ladder Match.
