Report: Backstage News On Xia Li's WWE Push

Xia Li has been on the receiving end of a push in NXT alongside Tian Sha and Boa in recent months. The Chinese Superstar is undefeated in 2021 and she emerged victorious from her recent feud with Kayden Carter and Kacy Catanzaro. 

Dave Meltzer was discussing Li's push on Wrestling Observer Radio and he noted WWE is pushing the 32-year-old because they want her to get over in China, similar to Jinder Mahal in India. 

"The deal with Xia Li, and this is the thing in WWE, right now there's a big movement to have international stars for certain markets. They have this idea, but then like with Mansoor they have the idea but then they won't go with them which is very weird. But they want a Latin star besides Rey Mysterio because Rey is 46-years-old. But they really want Indian stars which is why we've got Jinder again," Meltzer said.

"And then they want Chinese stars and that's where Xia comes in. Xia's got some charisma, she's got the martial arts ability. When she does her stuff, it kind of looks good and everything... She's a project and Mercedes [Martinez] has been around for close to 20 years. So Mercedes' job is to season Xia Li."

Li looks set to feud with Mercedes Martinez in the coming weeks after Tian Sha marked the 20-year veteran on this week's edition of NXT.
