Report: Johnny Gargano Signs One-Week Extension With WWE

See him through WarGames

Johnny Gargano will be a WWE Superstar for at least one more week.

The first-ever NXT Triple Crown Champion's WWE contract was set to expire on December 3 but Gargano was suddenly advertised for the Men's WarGames Match on December 5, two days after his contract would have ended.

In an update, Fightful Select have reported that Gargano has signed a one-week extension with WWE and his deal with the company will now expire on Friday, December 10. WWE also praised Gargano for agreeing to extend his contract, especially as other companies will likely be interested in the former NXT Champion.

If Gargano will remain a WWE Superstar past December 10 ultimately remains to be seen, but recent reports have noted WWE are "pushing hard" to re-sign Johnny Wrestling.

Gargano isn't the only high-profile NXT Superstar to agree to a short-term extension this year. Adam Cole's WWE contract expired back in June but the former Undisputed ERA leader agreed to remain with the company until August so he could finish up his feud with Kyle O'Reilly.

WWE were unable to sign Cole to a long-term deal, though, and the former ROH World Champion reunited with his former Bullet Club stablemates in The Elite at AEW All Out 2021 in September.
