Report: Kairi Sane No Longer Under Contract With WWE

What next for Sane?

Kairi Sane has reportedly departed WWE.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, The Pirate Princess' contract recently expired. WWE wanted to renew Sane's contract and have her wrestle in the United States but the former NXT Women's Champion did not want to return to the country.

News of Sane's departure follows the removal of WWE references from her social media handles earlier this week, with Kairi now billing herself as a 'Former WWE Superstar.'

Sane has also recently teased an in-ring return, tweeting a wink emoji after a fan said they would like to see The Pirate Princess inside the squared circle soon. According to Meltzer, World Wonder Ring Stardom would like to bring Sane back but no official plans have been made as of yet.

With her departure, Kairi Sane's run with WWE comes to an end after four years. She signed with WWE back in 2017 and went on to win the inaugural Mae Young Classic, the NXT Women's Championship and the Women's Tag Team Title with Asuka. The Pirate Princess quit the ring and returned to Japan in 2020, remaining with the company in an ambassadorial role.
