Report: Reason Roman Reigns Defeated Drew McIntyre At WWE Clash At The Castle Revealed

WWE held their biggest show in the United Kingdom for 30 years on Saturday, September 3 as Clash At The Castle emanated from the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. 

The show has been widely praised but it did end on a somewhat sour note as Roman Reigns defeated the UK's Drew McIntyre in the main event to retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Title. Fans inside the Principality Stadium were ready to explode for a McIntyre win and that potential moment being taken away caused widespread anger in the venue and even a smattering of chants for AEW. 

WWE were ultimately looking long-term with their decision to have Roman Reigns win, though, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. WWE reportedly remain committed to Reigns being the top guy and champion and the company want to establish him as "the legend for this generation." With all of this in mind, the company decided against ending The Tribal Chief's reign for the big pop that a McIntyre win would have generated.

Reigns has been at the top of WWE since he returned in the summer of 2020 and he has held the Universal Title for over two years. He will next defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at the upcoming Saudi Arabia show in early November.
