Report: Update On WWE's New Social Media Policy

WWE extended their third-party ban to social media over the last week and talent are now banned from monetising their Twitter and Instagram accounts by working with third parties. WWE can issue talent with violations. A first offence would lead to a warning, a second would result in a fine and a third would lead to the talent's suspension. 

In an update on the situation, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE is not aiming to limit "charitable initiatives" with the new policy, such as Sami Zayn's Sami For Syria. 

WWE told the Wrestling Observer: "While each situation may be unique/subject to discussion particularly around aligning with the WWE brand or current partners, limiting charitable initiatives is not the point of this."

WWE has stated they have exclusive ownership to talent's social media accounts regardless of if they use their birth name or stage name and, therefore, have the right to introduce the new policy. The company also noted they can introduce a more restrictive policy if they want to. 

"This is about a formal relationship where talent is monetizing WWE IP with third parties. Not dissimilar to what we have said over the past few months," WWE told Meltzer.
