Report: Why AEW Booked Tay Conti Vs. Santana Garrett On AEW Rampage Buy In Revealed

Santana Garrett will compete in her second All Elite Wrestling match tonight when The Midwest Sweetheart goes one on one with Tay Conti. 

The two former WWE Superstars will square off on the special AEW Rampage Buy In on YouTube, a show that will go head-to-head with the second hour of a supersized Friday Night SmackDown. SmackDown will then continue until 10:30 pm ET, going head-to-head with Rampage on TNT in the process.

While the match could see Conti extend her winning streak to four matches, there is another reason AEW put Garrett vs. Conti head-to-head with SmackDown. 

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Conti vs. Garrett on the November 6, 2019, episode of NXT was the first match to win a quarter for NXT against AEW in the Wednesday Night Wars. Meltzer noted it "isn't a coincidence" that AEW has booked that specific match when the promotion is going head-to-head with SmackDown for the first time and it's "probably" an inside joke within AEW to put the match on the buy in.
