Report: WWE SummerSlam Moving To Orlando's Amway Arena
Out of the Performance Center...
Multiple sources are reporting that the 2020 WWE SummerSlam is being moved to Orlando's Amway Arena, with Dave Meltzer corroborating the reports.
WWE has not formally announced the move and there's no word on when an announcement would come. Meltzer's report as of Thursday afternoon also states that the decision has not yet been finalized.
Before the pandemic, SummerSlam was scheduled to take place at TD Garden in Boston. Following the widespread shutdowns, WWE continued searching for a location outside of the Performance Center to host the event, specifically in the northeastern US. Reportedly, WWE was seeking to have Atlantic City, NJ host the card, but that story was quashed earlier this week.
Tickets will not be sold for the event, and the plan remains for only WWE-contracted personnel to make up the live audience, as is the current norm.
This will be the fourth traditional WWE pay-per-view to emanate from the Amway Arena. The previous three include the 1990 Royal Rumble, 2003 Armageddon, and 2016 Royal Rumble.
A live episode of SmackDown on August 21, as well as the following evening's NXT TakeOver: XXX, are both still scheduled to take place at the Performance Center.
