Rey Mysterio Announced For WWE Hall Of Fame
The high-flying legend is going to the Hall
Rey Mysterio is the first inductee officially announced for the 2023 class of the WWE Hall of Fame. The announcement was made during Friday night's episode of SmackDown.
Arguably the greatest high-flyer in the history of wrestling, the 48-year-old star has been a pro since the spring of 1989, having his first match at the age of 14. After using several different names early in his career, Mysterio took on the name Rey Misterio Jr in 1991, which was given to him by his uncle (who worked as the original Rey Misterio).
Mysterio moved to AAA in 1992. Two years later, he made a strong showing on a AAA/WCW joint-production in Los Angeles called When Worlds Collide. From there, Mysterio went on to become a sensation in the United States, first through a several month stint in ECW, then a five-year run with WCW, where he reigned five times as Cruiserweight champion, and three times as World Tag Team champion.
In 2002, Mysterio signed with WWE, where he's spent much of the last two decades (save for several years between 2015 and 2018). In WWE, Mysterio has been a World champion on three occasions, and won numerous secondary titles (including a Tag Team title reign with son Dominik). Mysterio was the 21st man to complete WWE's Grand Slam, and also won the 2006 Royal Rumble.
WWE's Hall of Fame ceremony takes place on Friday, March 31.
