Rockstar Spud Is Set To Sign With WWE

The two-time X-Division Champion will reportedly compete on 205 Live.

Rockstar Spud, former Impact Wrestling star and leading light of the UK wrestling scene, is all set to sign with WWE according to PWInsider.

The delay is apparently due to nothing more than paperwork, with Spud having returned to the UK to await confirmation of his visa. Should all go ahead as planned, he is expected to compete on WWE's 205 Live cruiserweight show.

Spud (real name James Curtin) has spend almost half a decade with Impact Wrestling, first debuting on February 7th 2013 - having won the British Boot Camp reality show a few weeks prior. He enjoyed some in-ring success, twice winning the X-Division Championship, but is perhaps better remembered for his stints as an unscrupulous comedic heel - sometimes managing villainous wrestlers such as Ethan Carter III.

He was also a member of the team that won the TNA World Cup in 2015, alongside names such as Jeff Hardy, Gail Kim, and Davey Richards.

As well as Impact Wrestling, Spud has also worked for numerous independent promotions - from those based in his homeland like RevPro, PROGRESS, and IPW: UK, to American companies such as PWG and CHIKARA.

Although short in stature, Spud has enjoyed a fruitful career so far, thanks in no small part to his in-ring ability and seemingly limitless charisma. He recently worked a gimmick on the UK independent scene where a bump to the head convinced him it was the early 2000s again, and that he was a young trainee starting out in the business.

This may seem like a call-up late in Spud's career, similar to WWE's signings of Samoa Joe and Bobby Roode in recent years. However, despite many years of prominence on the independent circuit, he is still only 34 years of age. Spud still has plenty of time to make an impression in front of a wider audience, and hopefully 205 Live provides him with the opportunity to do so.
