Roman Reigns: My Heel Turn Has Received The Reaction WWE & I Hoped For

Reigns has been 'The Head Of The Table' for a year

Roman Reigns says the reaction from fans to his new character in WWE has been exactly what he and the company hoped for.

Reigns debuted his new, Head Of The Table persona last August upon his return to WWE, following an absence during the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Since then, the Tribal Chief has been Universal Champion on SmackDown, aligned with Paul Heyman, and formed a seemingly unstoppable group with his cousins, Jimmy and Jey Uso.

The 36-year-old previously used to get a mixed reaction, something he acknowledges, but has been very happy with how is current run is being perceived by the audience.

Speaking with BT Sports’ Ariel Helwani, Reigns said: "I think [the heel turn is] pretty much been on point with what I thought it would be. It was always kind of a mixed reaction, depending on where we were, what kind of event it was, it can go either in a negative way or a positive way.

"I think we’ve really kept that negative loud dislike for what I’m doing from a character standpoint but then we also have those fans that are just supportive Roman Reigns fans that are going to be with me no matter what. Then I think we have a large group of fans that were naysayers that possibly have respected the performance and grind that I’ve been in the past year or so.

"It’s been what we have hoped for for sure."
