Sheamus: A Lot Of Other Superstars Were 'P***ed Off' When I Won My First WWE Championship

Sheamus won his first WWE title just a few months following his debut

Sheamus has admitted his first WWE Championship win in 2009 'p***ed off' a lot of other WWE superstars because of how quickly he won the Title.

Sheamus defeated John Cena in a Tables Match for the industry's biggest prize at WWE TLC 2009, just a few months after the Irishman had made his WWE debut. Sheamus had only been on WWE Raw since October 2009, but was trusted to win the WWE Championship three months later.

The 43-year-old has been with WWE for over a decade now and is considered one of the company's most consistent performers but, at the time, a lot of Sheamus' peers were less than impressed with his early success.

Speaking to Ryan Satin on the Out Of Character Podcast, Sheamus said: "People were definitely not stoked, they were definitely not stoked. There was a lot of people who were p****d off with the situation that happened. A lot of guys had been there for years and never had that opportunity.

"The fact that when I won...the heat! The heat! So much heat, mate, so much heat. So much heat I thought I was going to get sunburnt in the backstage area. But, you know, they say if you’re not getting heat you’re not doing your job right."
