Shinjiro Otani Set To Undergo Surgery

Japanese wrestling veteran Shinjiro Otani is set to undergo surgery tomorrow.

Japanese wrestling veteran Shinjiro Otani is set to undergo surgery tomorrow, according to a press release by ZERO1

On April 10, Otani was wrestling a match for the promotion against Takashi Sugiura when he sustained a serious injury. Otani took a German suplex into the corner of the ring, and although conscious afterwards and able to talk to medical staff, several reports indicated that he was unable to move his extremities.

ZERO1 have confirmed that Otani sustained a cervical spinal cord injury, and as mentioned, will undergo surgery on April 13.

A near three-decade veteran of the wrestling business, Otani built his career in NJPW. He's a former Junior Heavyweight and Tag Team Champion with the promotion, and at one time held the WCW Cruiserweight Championship during a period of cross-promotion between the two companies.

It goes without saying that all our thoughts are with Shinjiro and his loved ones, and we wish him all the best in his recovery.
