The Young Bucks Wanted To Hold Off On Winning The AEW World Tag Team Title For Another Year

Them winning at Full Gear was a Tony Khan call...

At Full Gear, The Young Bucks and FTR battled back and forth in what many believe to be one of the best tag team matches in the history of professional wrestling. Both The Bucks and FTR used finishers from past tag teams like The Steiner Brothers and The Hardy Boyz and told a story of Matt and Nick Jackson overcoming adversity to finally reach the top of the mountain after Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood decided not to stick to fists.

The Bucks recently sat down for an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated to discuss their title win and revealed they actually wanted to wait another year before capturing the belts. Tony Khan made the call for them to defeat FTR at Full Gear.

"If we'd won them right away, there wouldn't have been a struggle for our characters," Nick said. "We actually wanted to hold back for another year, so winning now was a Tony [Khan] call, but I'm glad it happened at the pay-per-view. It felt special, and winning it from FTR in this rivalry, in a match we never thought would happen, took it over the top."
