Update On Cody Rhodes' Injury Sustained on AEW Dynamite

Cody tore his rotator cuff on this week’s show

AEW: Dynamite this week saw Cody Rhodes teaming with The Nightmare Family’s Lee Johnson in a winning effort over Peter Avalon and Cezar Bononi. During the match, however, Rhodes suffered a shoulder injury.

While many believed it was a kayfabe injury to help the progression of the match, Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live confirmed that the injury is legitimate:

“I was told that when Cezar gave Cody the Overhead SOS Slam I think it’s called, Cody landed on the side of his shoulder, suffered a minor rotator cuff tear. It is believed that he will be fine for the match with Shaq but he did get injured.”

AEW will no doubt be relieved that Rhodes won’t miss any ring-time, as his match with Red Velvet against Shaquille O’Neill and Jade Cargill has been building for quite some time, and to cancel it at the 11th hour would be unfortunate.

The bout is scheduled for the March 3, 2021 edition of AEW: Dynamite, and we can only speculate that AEW are banking on Shaq drawing fresh eyes to the product.
