Update on John Cena's WWE Status Following SummerSlam 2021 Reportedly Emerges

Cena was defeated by Roman Reigns at WWE SummerSlam

The Summer Of Cena has come to an end, and reports indicate there are no plans in WWE for another John Cena comeback.

The 16-time World Champion main-evented SummerSlam 2021 against Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship on Saturday evening, tasting defeat at the hands of The Head Of The Table and bringing an end to their rivalry in recent weeks.

Cena is scheduled to appear for WWE at Madison Square Garden during the 10th September Friday Night SmackDown taping but, according to PWInsider, Cena has no other future WWE appearances scheduled.

The report indicates that, beyond the September date in New York City, WWE is progressing based on the assumption that Cena will not be available for them for shows or pay-per-views due to his filming commitments. There is also no timetable in place for when Cena could next appear for a run in WWE.

Cena wrestled 14 matches this summer between WWE TV tapings, live events and SummerSlam 2021, after making his return at Money In The Bank last month. The 44-year-old actually made more appearances than WWE expected, with Cena asking to do more dates while he had the time to fulfil them.

Cena is now heading to Europe to begin filming of his next movie, 'Argyle', the first in a planned trilogy.
