Why Kenny Omega Vs. Bryan Danielson Opened AEW Dynamite Grand Slam Reportedly Revealed

Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson met in the ring for the first time since 2009 on the September 22nd edition of AEW Dynamite, wrestling to a 30-minute time-limit draw. 

It was advertised as one of the main events of the show so it was assumed by many that it would go on last. However, this wasn't the case as the historic match opened the show. 

The reason why has reportedly been revealed by Dave Meltzer in the most recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, who explains that it was purposely done to allow more uninterrupted television time to be dedicated to the match before their first commercial break.

This match, per the report, was seen as the company's top priority so they decided to place it first. The placement of the match allowed for a longer length of time between commercial breaks, giving more time for the bout in front of the television viewer.

Evidently, it was the correct placement of the match as the crowd was very hot throughout the match and kicked off what was a stellar night of wrestling for AEW.

Danielson and Omega's match was hailed online by fans as one of the best AEW Dynamite matches in the companies two-year history and has been awarded 5 stars by Dave Meltzer in the most recent edition of the Wrestling Observer. This is the American Dragon's first-ever 5-star rated match by Meltzer and the Wrestling Observer in his 22-year long career.
