WWE Hall of Famer "Mean" Gene Okerlund has passed away at the age of 76.
At the time of writing, the circumstances surrounding Gene's passing are unknown.
Okerlund is arguably the greatest broadcaster in professional wrestling history, working at the top of the business during the big boom periods of the 1980s and 1990s. Gene joined WWE in 1984, where he would become synonymous with classic moments while interviewing the likes of Hulk Hogan, "Macho" Man Randy Savage and the Ultimate Warrior.
Hogan led the tributes to Okerlund on social media, tweeting: "Mean Gene I love you my brother HH"
Gene would make the jump to WCW in 1993, before returning to WWE once more at WrestleMania X-Seven to call the infamous Gimmick Battle Royal alongside Bobby "The Brain" Heenan.
Tony Schiavone, who worked alongside Gene for WCW during the '90s, tweeted: "Devastated to hear the news of my friend Gene Okerlund’s passing. He was, and will always be, pro wrestling greatest stick man #meangene"
