WWE To Introduce New Championship

A new championship to be introduced by WWE

WWE have announced a new experimental show and championship are to debut soon, with WWE Speed set for X/Twitter from April 3.

In a post to X, Corey Graves formally announced the show, and further revealed that a tournament will be held to crown the first ever WWE Speed Champion. The tournament rules will see all matches contested under three-minute time limits, with a focus on ‘speed, strength, and agility’. The concept sounds similar to the Beat the Clock Challenge, but without the idea that ‘fastest time wins’.

WWE filmed a pilot for the show in December 2023, before officially announcing the show during the WrestleMania XL press conference in February. Pete Dunne was recently listed as a producer for Speed matches during the recent SmackDown tapings.

The deal between WWE and X is reported to be set for two years, with new episodes of Speed to air weekly. There have been no reports as to how much X is paying WWE for the content.

The physical WWE Speed Championship belt has yet to be revealed, and will mark the first new WWE championship since the introduction of the World Heavyweight Championship and Women’s World Championship in June 2023. The Speed Championship will be the first title with specific rules introduced since the poorly received 24/7 Championship was unveiled in 2019.
