WWE's Paul Heyman: Gabe Steveson Can Become A Household Name

Steveson has his eyes set on WWE

USA Olympian Gabe Steveson has already outlined his desires to become a WWE superstar in the future, and Paul Heyman believes the 21-year-old has the potential to become a household name.

The reigning Pan American Continental Champion qualified to represent the USA at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in freestyle, upsetting 2016 Rio champion Taha Akgul in the quarter-finals to book his place in the last four.

Steveson's made clear his intentions to pursue a career with WWE once his amateur wrestling days are done, and has been seen at events, including NXT TakeOver Stand & Deliver in April, while also being photographed backstage.

Having spent a bit of time with Steveson, Heyman knows what the young competitor is about and believes he has the potential to enjoy a legendary career that makes himself, and his promotion, a lot of money.

Speaking to The Athletic, Heyman said: "Coming home with a gold medal would be a platform from which Gable Steveson could become a household name. As an entertainer, he understands that athleticism is not enough. He has to convey his message. He has to razzle-dazzle the audience in a manner that other great athletes cannot compete with.

"There are great boxers and UFC fighters who can’t sell a pay-per-view or a stream or a ticket, and there are those like Connor McGregor who have lost their past several fights and will still be the biggest box office attraction because they understand the entertainment aspect of it.

"When you merge a champion with an entertainer, you have a legendary career that also is huge box office. That’s Gable Steveson."
