Drew McIntyre Wants WWE To Have A Pay-Per-View In The UK

Back in 1992, WWE hosted SummerSlam at Wembley Stadium with 80,000 people in attendance. The show was considered a rousing success in which fans were sent home happy having witnessed The British Bulldog defeat Bret Hart for the Intercontinental Championship.  

WWE hasn't hosted a major pay-per-view across the pond since, with the last big event coming back in 2015 with NXT TakeOver: London. 

Newly crowned WWE Champion Drew McIntyre is hoping to change this, however. During a recent interview with the BBC, The Scottish Psychopath said he was "going to make it happen" as soon as possible. He also considers it an achievable goal, especially after defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36.

McIntyre said: "I'm going to make it happen. I made this happen, becoming the first-ever British champion, so I'll make the pay-per-view happen too."

The Scotsman also explained he planned on going on a UK-wide tour with the WWE Championship after the coronavirus pandemic. He was initially scheduled to do a media tour across Britain ahead of WrestleMania but he was forced to return to the United States after President Trump introduced a European travel ban. 

The new WWE Champion added: "But when everything starts resuming back to normal and I get the chance to come back to the UK, I want to bring this title back. I want to get an open top bus and drive from the top of Scotland to the bottom of England and just promote WWE like crazy."
