Gangrel To Challenge For NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title

Vampire champion?

Trevor Murdoch will put the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship on the line next month against Gangrel.

The National Wrestling Alliance announced on Wednesday that Murdoch will go one on one with Gangrel at Duuuval Brawl 4 on Saturday, January 8, 2022, in Jacksonville, Florida. The event will be hosted by NWA star The Pope's Love-Alive charity.

This will be the first time Gangrel has been involved in an NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title match in almost 20 years. He previously competed as Vampire Warrior on the first TNA Wrestling weekly pay-per-view in 2002, which was main evented by a Gauntlet For The Gold for the NWA World Title.

Gangrel would ultimately be eliminated by Brian Christopher and Ken Shamrock went on to defeat Malice to capture the championship.

Trevor Murdoch has been NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion since he ended Nick Aldis' 1043-day reign back in August of this year. He has since defended it twice against Attila Khan and Mike Knox.

Gangrel has spent much of his time on the independent wrestling scene since he departed WWE in 2006. He was set to return to All Elite Wrestling earlier this year but his appearance was scrapped after Edge revived the Brood's entrance at SummerSlam.
