Report: The Finish To Asuka Vs. Nia Jax Was Changed Hours Before Backlash 2020 Began

The match ended in a double count-out...

At Backlash 2020, Asuka defended the Raw Women's Championship against Nia Jax. The two Superstars battled back and forth for five minutes as Jax constantly overpowered her opponent but The Empress Of Tomorrow used her speed to frequently trap Nia in submissions. Ultimately, the bout ended in a Double Count-Out as the champion and the challenger brawled around the ringside area.

Dave Meltzer revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio this wasn't the original plan for the bout and Vince McMahon changed the finish hours before the pay-per-view began. WWE was originally going to put over Asuka and have her pin The Facebreaker, but the company changed their minds.

Meltzer said: "This was a changed finish by the way. A lot like pretty much I think everything on Raw is going to be changed… They changed the finish and they didn't tape interviews last week for next week talking about how Asuka pinned her."

The two Superstars will now seemingly face off again at Extreme Rules. This means Charlotte Flair will have to wait a little while longer before she goes one on one with the winner in a future feud.
