Report: Why Stephanie McMahon Quit WWE Revealed

Reason Stephanie McMahon left WWE

After working for the organisation from the age of 13, Stephanie McMahon announced her resignation from all of her roles in WWE - including as Chairwoman and Co-CEO - on January 10, 2022. Her departure came amidst Vince McMahon's return to the company, with Stephanie's father being elected as Executive Chairman by a restructured Board of Directors.

Stephanie's departure also left Nick Khan as CEO, while her husband Paul "Triple H" Levesque remains Chief Content Officer.

In an update on the situation, those unhappy with Stephanie McMahon's departure told Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that she had done "a great job" as Co-CEO with Nick Khan but Stephanie was set to be demoted due to Vince's election as Executive Chairman. Along with a demotion, McMahon didn't really need the money or the job and she had already decided to take a leave of absence in 2022 anyway.

Stephanie took a leave of absence from WWE in May 2022 but returned shortly after initially as Interim CEO and Chairwoman before being installed as Co-CEO and Chairwoman on a permanent basis in July after Vince McMahon retired in disgrace amidst a sexual misconduct and hush money scandal.
