Report: Why WWE Backstage Will No Longer Be A Weekly Show Revealed

The show was scaled back last week...

Last week, it emerged that FS1 was scaling back production on WWE Backstage and the show would no longer be a weekly programme. As a result of the changes, 20 producers and talent lost their jobs, but the show could be revived in the build-up to major events and pay-per-views in the future.

FOX issued the following statement to POST Wrestling: "Today, we announced programming changes designed to better address the needs of our business. As a result, some positions in our production department have been eliminated."

The programme started off with a bang as CM Punk returned to the WWE fold on the November 12, 2019, episode as an analyst, but the show struggled in the ratings and viewership often fell below 100,000 despite stars like Booker T and Christian being regularly featured.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter FS1 made the decision to scale back production because they thought they were spending too much money on a show that wasn't attracting big ratings and ultimately decided to scale it back before they spent more money.
