WWE Announce Return Of Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic

Is expected to conclude at NXT TakeOver: Portland...

During last night's episode of NXT, Finn Balor and Adam Cole faced off for the NXT Championship and Shayna Baszler defended her NXT Women's Championship against Rhea Ripley.

Along with these two title matches, WWE announced that the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will return to NXT in 2020. There are currently no details about which teams will take part in the tournament, but they'll be announced on the January 1st 2020 episode of NXT.

The tournament is expected to dominate the yellow brand's programming in the early months of 2020, and ultimately conclude at NXT TakeOver: Portland.

The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic was originally created in WWE to honour the memory of Dusty Rhodes. The Classic takes inspiration from the Crockett Cup tournaments of the 1980s, which Rhodes took part in and helped book.

The tournament has been a staple on NXT since 2015. The first Tag Team Classic was won by Samoa Joe & Finn Balor, who emerged victorious against Baron Corbin & Rhyno at NXT TakeOver: Respect. Previous winners also include The Authors Of Pain, The Undisputed ERA and Aleister Black & Ricochet.
