WWE Announcer Jerry "The King" Lawler Becomes A Champion At The Age Of 70

Jerry "The King" Lawler was an active in-ring performer in WWE from 2010 until 2012. He competed in high profile matches against Michael Cole, Daniel Bryan and he even faced The Miz for the WWE Championship at Elimination Chamber in 2011. The King has not competed in a WWE ring since the September 10, 2012 episode of Monday Night Raw, when he suffered a heart attack.

This has not stopped Lawler from regularly competing on the Indie circuit, however, and the Memphis Wrestling legend proved at the weekend that he isn't ready to hang up his boots just yet. He faced Matt Riviera in a Title vs. Career match in Championship Wrestling of Arkansas and after a short bout, Lawler delivered his famous Piledriver and pinned Riviera for the victory. With that, Lawler became the new CWA Arkansas Heavyweight champion.

Lawler and Riviera had been embroiled in a rivalry with one another for several years. They teamed together in Traditional Championship Wrestling and were one-time TCW Tag Team champions. After TCW folded, they became rivals and have faced each other sporadically since 2014. However, Lawler seemingly put an exclamation mark on their long-running rivalry at the weekend.
