Chris Jericho Discusses Desired Opponents If He Were To Return To NJPW

Le Champion speaks...

Wrestle Kingdom 14 has come and gone, and with it came Chris Jericho's sixth match for New Japan since linking back up with the promotion two years ago.

On the eve of his bout with Hiroshi Tanahashi, the AEW World Heavyweight champion spoke with Sports Illustrated's Justin Barrasso about his future with New Japan, and who he may want to work with down the line.

“I came to work with Omega, Naito, Okada, and Tanahashi,” said Jericho. “Will I come back after the Tana match? I don’t know.

"I’d love to work with (Will) Ospreay and (Kota) Ibushi. It might be mission accomplished after this, it might not, but it’s really cool to go back as a main event heavyweight after being a junior heavyweight."

Jericho ultimately defeated Tanahashi at the Tokyo Dome on Sunday, a match in which Tanahashi would have apparently earned an AEW World championship match, were he to emerge victorious.

Jericho's last previous match with New Japan came at Dominion in June 2019, losing to then-IWGP Heavyweight champion Kazuchika Okada.
