John Cena Officially Joins Cast Of Suicide Squad Sequel

Who will he play?

WWE

Director James Gunn is developing quite the working relationship with former WWE champions.

After working with Dave Batista (as Drax the Destroyer) across several films as director or producer, Gunn will now be directing one of Batista’s old Ohio Valley classmates.

John Cena has joined the cast for the sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad. The follow-up is due to be released in August of 2021.

Gunn tweeted out an image of various castmember names for the Suicide Squad sequel that he is set to direct, captioned, “Don’t get too attached. #TheSuicideSquad“. Cena is listed among those names, alongside numerous stars of the first movie, including Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Jay Hernandez.

Cena’s role has not been confirmed, although it’s been rumored for some time that he was in talks to play the part of Peacemaker, a pacifist ironically driven to kill in the name of peace.

Cena’s upcoming filmography also includes the ninth Fast and the Furious movie, scheduled for a May 2020 release.
