Kota Ibushi Staying With NJPW

No Golden Lovers reunion in AEW just yet...

Last week, the internet was brimmed with rumour and innuendo surrounding the future of Kota Ibushi with Cageside Seats reporting that the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion was heading for AEW once he was cleared from the concussion he suffered at Wrestle Kingdom 13.

However, at the midway point of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s New Beginning event in Osaka today, the man himself revealed that he's staying put. NJPW expert and English commentator Chris Charlton translated what the Golden Star said during his promo:

Ibushi: today, I have something to say to everyone. My neck, my head, it’s made everyone worry. I’m sorry. But I’m now able to speak in front of you all.

Ibushi: I WILL STAY IN NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING!

Ibushi: next month! I will be in the New Japan Cup! And I will win it! I’m not going anywhere and I will give it my all here in NJPW! Thanks for your support.

After the signing of Kenny Omega, a Golden Lovers reunion in AEW looked to be nailed on. Now, it's clear we'll have to wait.
