Mike Kanellis Wrestles For The First Time In WWE Since Requesting His Release

As part of a new tag team...

Back in October, WWE Superstar Mike Kanellis requested his release from the company. While both he and his wife, Maria Kanellis, only signed new contracts in June, the former IMPACT Wrestling star cited his lack of TV time as to why he wanted to leave WWE. He elaborated that he would often come home "Defeated, sad and angry" which was affecting his home life. Kanellis did mention that he would be happy to stay with the company if they used him, however.

Now, the former IWGP Tag Team champion could be in line for a return to WWE TV on NXT. Mike Johnson at PWInsider reported that Kanellis and Tony Nese were to be partnered together on the January 17 and 18 NXT house shows as part of a test run which could see them used regularly on the black and gold brand.

The new team looks set to experience mixed success, however. While they emerged victorious against Mohamed Fahim & Nick Ogarelli on January 17, they were vanquished by Kushida & Isaiah "Swerve" Scott on January 18.

For the avoidance of doubt, Johnson penned: "Tony Nese and Mike Kanellis are teaming on this weekend's WWE NXT live events as a test run for a potential team that could be used regularly on WWE NXT TV, PWInsider.com has learned."
