NWA Presenter David Marquez Defends Jim Cornette's Racist Remark
The saga seemingly isn't over...
During episode seven of NWA Powerrr, commentator Jim Cornette made a racist remark. During a non-title match between NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch, Cornette said Murdoch was: "The only man I’ve ever known that could strap a bucket of fried chicken on his back and drive a motor scooter across Ethiopia."
Soon after, Cornette defended his remark saying it was a joke about starvation and that it was, "not a race joke." The former manager of The Midnight Express then resigned from the NWA, claiming the job, "wasn't fun anymore."
With Cornette's resignation, many in the wrestling world believed the saga had come to an end. The NWA has since replaced Cornette on commentary with Stu Bennett.
However, NWA presenter David Marquez has seemingly not forgotten about the incident. Earlier today, he accused people of having double standards as Eddie Murphy, an African American, was able to comment on race on Saturday Night Live, while Jim Cornette could not make a joke about starvation.
Marquez tweeted: "Eddie Murphy can say "C**n Boy" on network TV but @TheJimCornette can't say a starvation joke in the internet? Good on you America."
Those in the wrestling world have responded with bewilderment to Marquez's tweet. Independent wrestler David Starr replied with a GIF of Jon Hamm giving a puzzled expression, while Danny Cage tweeted a GIF of Captain America saying, "It's just not the same."
