Report: Edge Set To Return To WWE Ring At Royal Rumble

For the first time since WrestleMania 27...

During the SummerSlam 2019 pre-show, Edge speared Elias, performing his first wrestling move inside a WWE ring in over eight years. After the segment, many fans wondered if this would lead to an in-ring return for the Rated-R Superstar, and even Edge himself said he "could do a match tomorrow."

Edge has since denied he is planning an in-ring return despite signing a new deal with WWE. As recently as December 20th, the former World Heavyweight champion tried to put rumours to bed, tweeting: "Still not and still not. Period."

This was seemingly smoke and mirrors from Edge, however, as Bill Pritchard at Wrestlezone reported that a source within WWE told him that The Ultimate Opportunist would indeed be returning to the squared circle and he is expected to be an entrant in the Men's Royal Rumble match. Whether or not this leads to a match at WrestleMania 36 remains to be seen.

For the avoidance of doubt, Pritchard wrote: "A source speaking with Wrestlezone recently said Edge will make his in-ring return, and we can expect to see him as an entrant in the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble match. No other details were shared about if this is a one-off appearance or if we could see him return for more, but the source noted Edge in the Rumble match is a "lock" and that he’s currently tabbed as a very early entrant in the match."
