Report: More Details Emerge About Matt Hardy's WWE Contract Situation

Its all because of the Broken Universe....

In recent weeks, Matt Hardy has repeatedly hinted that he will be leaving WWE when his contract expires on March 1st 2020. On Twitter, he has repeatedly liked and retweeted fans tweets about him being underutilised by WWE Creative and he began the FREE THE DELETE series on his YouTube channel back in October.

Mike Johnson at PWInsider has previously reported that Hardy is in negotiations with WWE over a new deal, but that the main sticking point has been how he will be used in the future. Particularly as Hardy believes the company dropped the ball with his Woken gimmick.

Now, further details have emerged about the former SmackDown Tag Team champion's disagreements with WWE. Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Hardy pitched the return of his Broken character, but the creative team was not interested.

This has led to their negotiations stalling and could lead to Hardy jumping ship to AEW. It has been heavily speculated in recent weeks that Hardy is set to revive his Broken character as The Exalted One in The Dark Order.

For the avoidance of doubt, Meltzer penned: "Matt Hardy is expected to leave WWE in March. He produced new Broken videos and offered an idea for a "Free the Delete" series to lead to his return with the old character. But they weren’t interested. Hardy is the leading speculated name for the leader of the Dark Order since they just started teasing a leader and Hardy just started putting out the videos."
