Report: The New Day Were Originally Booked To Face Another Tag Team At WWE TLC

They will face The Revival on Sunday instead...

The New Day are set to defend their SmackDown Tag Team Championships against The Revival at TLC. The seven-time Tag Team champions have been embroiled in a rivalry with their opponents since August when Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson started teaming with Randy Orton. Since then, the two tag teams have fought each other on numerous occasions, defeating one another for the SmackDown titles in the process.

Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that the continuation of their rivalry was not WWE's original plan. He explained that Kofi Kingston and Big E were originally booked to face Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode at TLC. However, Roode's suspension for violating the company's wellness policy meant the match was scrapped.

This ultimately meant WWE booked a Fatal 4-Way between The Revival, The Lucha House Party, Heavy Machinery and Mustafa Ali & Shorty G to determine the number one contenders on last week's episode of SmackDown.

For the avoidance of doubt, Meltzer said: "When I got the card for the TLC pay-per-view, the card was New Day against Bobby Roode and Dolph Ziggler."
