Rey Mysterio's First Title Shot Since WWE Return Revealed

The road to Starrcade has begun...

Rey Mysterio made his big WWE return last night on SmackDown 1000 with a victory over United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura in a qualifying match for the WWE World Cup. Now, the company have confirmed where and when the Master of the 619 will receive his first WWE title shot since his comeback.

WWE Starrcade will see Rey challenge The King of Strong Style for the US title on 24 November in Cincinnati, Ohio. Here is the updated card for the event (the main event will presumably be changed after what went down at the conclusion of this week's Raw):

  • Cincinnati Street Fight: The Shield vs. Braun Strowman, Drew McIntyre & Dolph Ziggler

  • WWE Championship Steel Cage Match: AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe

  • SmackDown Women’s Championship Steel Cage Match: Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair

  • SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: The New Day vs. The Bar

  • Elias in concert

The news of Mysterio's United States title shot is the latest in a long line of big announcements surrounding the former World Heavyweight Champion so far this year. He's taken part in the Royal Rumble in January, the Greatest Royal Rumble in April, he's made his NJPW debut, made the roster for WWE 2K19 and signed a two-year WWE deal.

Earlier this week, Rey's schedule for the remainder of the year was reported by various sources, with the Starrcade appearance complimented by scheduled outings at Survivor Series, TLC, and a SmackDown Live UK taping in Manchester next month. Could Rey be United States Champion by the time that run, and the calendar year, comes to an end?
