Reports from tonight’s NXT tapings have revealed that the brand is planning to introduce a new singles title. The first match to determine the inaugural NXT North American Champion will take place at TakeOver: New Orleans – and will feature six NXT Superstars.
William Regal revealed the news, and was quickly interrupted by recent NXT signee EC3. The former TNA World Heavyweight Champion thanked Regal for creating a new title just for him, but the NXT general manager retorted that nothing is handed out for free.
This certainly appears to be the case, as the match to determine the first ever holder of the title looks to be a doozy. At NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, we will see a six-man ladder match for the belt – featuring EC3, Ricochet, Adam Cole, Velveteen Dream, Killian Dain, and Lars Sullivan.
This news comes hot on the heels of reports that WWE are also looking to introduce a set of Cruiserweight Tag Team titles – although this plan will apparently not be put into motion until after WrestleMania 34.
Other spoilers from the NXT tapings include the renewal of the feud between Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa, despite Gargano recently failing to win a title vs. NXT career match against Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas (thanks to Ciampa’s interference). The former tag partners fought after Gargano appeared from the crowd, only to be restrained by security.
In the tag team division, the final of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic has been determined. In a match that will also take place at TakeOver: New Orleans, the Authors of Pain will take on the team of WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne and Roderick Strong.
